About Group Therapy

Group therapy feels scary to just about everyone. Incredibly, the research for group therapy shows that in many cases, it's equally effective at helping people as individual therapy. Group therapy offers an almost entirely unique type of experience of engaging with others in a deep, open way that gives you a chance to learn from each other but also with each other about your very process of "being" a human. Over time in a group, you develop a deep sense of trust and also shared humanity such that you start feeling safe to a degree you didn't think possible. You can practice really being yourself, get real feedback about how you relate with others and try out behaviors and ways of showing up that you may not have a good place to practice in your life outside the group. It's a real opportunity to try something new. If your struggles involve interpersonal dynamics, overthinking, feeling like a failure or imposter, or feeling alone in your struggles, a group may be a wonderful place for you to grow with others who feel a lot like you do.

Group Offerings

Right now, I'm running a group that is loosely structured around values-based living. At its core this group is a "process group"--a space to explore yourself and your relationships with each other. Each week, there's a topic and members share about their own experience related to that topic. For example, one topic might be "how do you navigate the pull between wanting to keep growing and changing as a person with, on the other hand, the desire to accept yourself as you are?" This type of question serves as a springboard for members to share from their experience and connect with one another. This group is currently open only to my individual therapy clients.

I am actively working on forming a group that's open to people whether or not they are also my individual therapy clients; this group will likely be loosely focused on anxiety. I have a few interested people but not enough yet to start the group, so if you'd be interested in being part of that please reach out! We can meet for a free consultation so you can share a bit about what you're hoping to explore or work on in a group, get a sense of what I might be like as a group leader/facilitator, and I can answer any questions you might have.

If you're scared of being in group therapy, you're absolutely not alone. In fact, that fear itself is a sign that it might be a really good fit for you! So reach out if you're curious. And as a final note, I have a co-facilitated anxiety weekend group retreat at a retreat center in the works, so if you'd like to be kept in the loop about that, let me know.
